The CEU is defined as
a measure of participation in an organized continuing education
experience under sponsorship by an
appropriate authority, with instruction, direction and
evaluation by qualified personnel.
One CEU is equal to
ten (10) contact hours of participation. University College
adheres to strict guidelines designed
to ensure proper documentation and reporting of noncredit
special activities on behalf of Florida Tech.
Through an application
process, there is assurance that a Florida Tech-approved
CEU workshop, conference or seminar
has met institutional guidelines for providing a well-planned,
well-structured workshop for the professional development
of its participants.
In order to ensure proper granting of CEUs and to maintain
permanent institutional records for individuals receiving
CEUs, all requests for CEUs will be processed through
University College; and approved by the Office of the
Provost (including
requests for certificates bearing the university name
and/or seal).
Granting of CEUs will only be considered
under the following guidelines:
- Florida Tech faculty
design, direct and evaluate the program.
- Florida Tech
has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the educational
provider and has reviewed and
approved the granting of CEUs in advance.
- Florida
Tech is a partner in a joint offering with Florida Tech
and an educational provider.
In all cases, the following
must be approved by University College before the programs
are offered for CEUs:
- The program or activity must
be planned in response to the educational needs of
a target population or
clientele
group.
- A clear statement of rationale,
purpose and goal must be prepared for each
educational activity prior
to
initiation.
- Qualified instructional
personnel are directly involved.
- Sufficient detail to
provide necessary information for a
permanent record
of individual participation
is provided.
- There is a system
in place for the verification of satisfactory
completion
and for providing
an approved
list of those
awarded CEUs to University
College.
- Pre-determined
evaluation procedures are used to
measure the effectiveness
of the
program’s
design and operation.
