General

Is Florida Tech accredited?
Florida Institute of Technology is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, education specialist and doctoral degrees. SACS is the recognized regional accrediting body in the 11 U.S. southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia).

The university is approved by the Office of Education of the U.S. Department of Education.

The university is a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida, the American Council on Education, the College Entrance Examination Board, the American Society for Engineering Education and Oak Ridge Associated Universities.

When was Florida Tech founded?
Founded in 1958 as Brevard Engineering College by Dr. Jerome P. Keuper, Florida Tech initially offered continuing education opportunities to scientists, engineers and technicians, who were employed at what is now NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center.

Programs are offered at ten sites in five states:

  • Orlando, Spaceport (Kennedy Space Center and Rockledge) and Melbourne in Florida
  • Alexandria, the Hampton Roads area and Fort Lee in Virginia
  • Aberdeen Proving Ground and Patuxent River in Maryland
  • Picatinny/Lakehurst in New Jersey
  • Redstone Arsenal in Alabama

What services does the Professional Development Division offer?
Professional development programs offered by the university are numerous. Our services include working with both large and small organizations by offering the consultancy services of a highly qualified team of academic experts and industry professionals. Our success includes developing executive leadership programs both online and in a traditional classroom setting. One-day hands-on classes have been taught on all phases of project management. Senior level computer training is done right here on our main campus in Melbourne. The options are limitless.

What master’s degree programs does University College offer?
Graduate degree programs are offered through the Extended Studies Division and through the Virtual Campus. Please note that not all degree programs are offered at each site.

Not all certificates are taught at each of the ten Extended Studies sites, though all certificates are available for completion via the Virtual Campus.

Is a degree from any one of the Extended Studies sites or the Virtual Campus the same as a degree from Florida Institute of Technology?
Yes. Your degree from any one of the ten Extended Studies sites or the Virtual Campus is the same accredited degree as any one of Florida Tech’s six colleges.

What is University Alliance?
Florida Tech offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs through a partnership with Bisk Education’s University Alliance division. All degrees are taught online. Applying for Admission

Can I submit an application for a master’s degree online?
Yes. Applications are accepted online on a rolling basis for all of the Extended Studies sites and the Virtual Campus. Apply today.

What are the application fees?
Applicants to any of the ten Extended Studies sites, including the Virtual Campus will submit a $50 application fee. Visit our Tuition, Fees and Payment Policy page.

Is financial aid available?
As a general rule, a graduate student must be enrolled half time (at least five semester hours per term) as a regular student in a degree program and must be a U. S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen to qualify for federal and state financial aid.

What are the guidelines for transferring credits from another college or university?
If the courses are a logical part of a student’s program, up to a maximum of 12 semester hours of transfer credit from regionally accredited institutions may be transferred (for one master’s degree only). Individual conditions may apply.

Do you offer a payment plan?
Yes, through FACTS Management Company, the leading tuition payment plan provider in the industry. Working together, Florida Institute of Technology and FACTS provide strategies for covering tuition expenses.

Yes. Payments are accepted by credit card. You may pay by credit card or e-check by accessing your student account in PAWS via the Florida Tech Web site.

What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is an online learning system that university faculty can use to deliver all or part of a regularly scheduled university course. If the instructor is using Blackboard, students can find information about courses, such as announcements, course documents, syllabi, presentations or links to other Web sites. Do I need a GRE or GMAT?
The GMAT is required for admission to the Professional M.B.A. and M.B.A. In all other programs, the GMAT, GRE General Test and/or GRE Subject Tests, as well as letters of reference, may be required for admission for those whose previous academic achievement is deemed to be marginal.
